Frequently Asked Questions - Landowners

How do I know if a wind farm is right for my property?
Vermont Community Wind carefully assesses potential sites using topography, constructibility, transmission network access, size, and zoning just to name a few. Our systematic assessment of a site will determine whether your property is suitable for a wind farm.

How will a wind farm impact my property?
Wind Energy is a clean and renewable energy source that produces zero emissions. You will be able to use your land as you always have and in addition, you will be contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

Do wind turbines shed ice?
Wind turbines are designed to shut down when an imbalance is detected. Ice accumulation can produce an imbalance which sometimes results in ice shedding while the turbine is stopped or starting up again. Turbine setback requirements from roads and residences protect the public from injury due to possible ice shed.
